Hello from Cape Town

This is the first post on my new self-hosted blog. The plan is to write here whenever I land somewhere new or notice something worth keeping.

Why I’m here

I’m two weeks into the Cooperative AI Research Fellowship in Cape Town. The cohort is twelve people from eleven countries, picked from about 1,100 applicants. Most of us are working on some flavor of multi-agent AI systems — how groups of LLM-based agents coordinate, fail, and recover.

Early impressions

A few things I didn’t expect:

1. The tech community here is doing genuinely interesting work at the intersection of AI and global development — not as a side concern, but as the central question.
2. The pace is different. Slower in the best way. Conversations are longer, decisions feel more deliberate.
3. The food. I’ll write a separate post.

What’s next

I’m spending the next few weeks getting my prototype off the ground. After that, I want to take a long weekend on the Western Cape coast — Cape Point, the Cederberg, maybe Hermanus for whale-watching season.
